KeyAble
KeyAble is an accessible web app for customising Keychron keyboards. With it you can make any key, or the knob, do something else: a keyboard shortcut, a media control, a system action, or a macro that runs several actions in one go. It also gives full control over keyboard RGB lighting.
Keychron's own Launcher web app is very difficult to use with a screen reader. KeyAble does the same job in a few plain steps: pick a key, pick what it should do, and hear the change read back before anything is written to the keyboard. It runs in your web browser and needs nothing installed.
What it can do:
- Change what a key does: another key, a keyboard shortcut, a media control, a system action such as Lock Screen, a macro, or nothing at all.
- Set what the knob does when you press it and turn it, on models that have one.
- Give a key a second job when you hold Fn with it.
- Edit the Mac layout or the Windows layout, with keys named correctly for each.
- Pick the key to change from a list, or just press it in Capture Mode.
- Build macros that type text, press shortcuts, use media and system keys, and pause between steps.
- Control the backlight, including switching it off to save battery.
- List every key you have changed, and put any of them, or the whole keyboard, back to factory settings.
- Save different setups to files, and load whichever one you need.
Your changes are saved onto the keyboard itself, so they go with it to any computer, and they keep working over Bluetooth once you unplug the cable.
KeyAble is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or supported by Keychron. Remapping does no lasting harm to a keyboard, and if anything ever goes wrong there is an emergency reset on the keyboard itself.
Requirements
What you need for KeyAble to run at all.
- A Keychron keyboard from the list of supported keyboards, connected by a USB cable, with its connection switch set to cable rather than Bluetooth or 2.4 GHz.
- Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave or another browser built on Chromium, on a computer. Firefox, Safari and phone browsers cannot talk to a keyboard over USB, so KeyAble cannot connect in them.
Tested on
- Keychron V5 Max, V6 Max, Q6 Max and B6 Pro keyboards.
- NVDA, in Chrome and Edge.
- Windows 11.
Not tested, but it should work: JAWS, Narrator and VoiceOver, other browsers built on Chromium, Mac, and the other supported keyboards, which are built from Keychron's own firmware data.
