If the unit stops responding
Every so often the RØDECaster drops off the USB connection by itself. It is a fault in the unit rather than in this app, nothing is lost when it happens, and it is most likely just after a factory reset, which is the moment the unit rebuilds its USB connection from scratch.
- What it looks like: Every control stops working and the app says it cannot find the unit, or that it is half connected. Your audio may carry on regardless, because the desk keeps mixing whatever it is doing and a second computer on the other USB socket has its own connection, so silence is not the signal to watch for. The desk itself is fine; it is only the connection to this computer that has gone.
- What to do first: Unplug the USB cable in the socket nearest the power inlet, wait a few seconds, and plug it back in. That is the socket this app talks to the unit over, and the other one carries audio only. Do not skip the wait: putting it straight back in is what fails most often.
- If that does not work: Try it once or twice more. A replug is simply another attempt at the same thing, and it can take more than one. Give it a good few seconds out each time.
- If it still will not appear: This is RØDE's own procedure for a unit that will not come back. Disconnect the power, press and hold the red button on the back for sixty seconds, then reconnect the power supply on its own, with no other cables, and press the red button to switch the unit on. Add the rest of your cables once it has started up.
- What it does not affect: Your settings, your pads and your recordings. Nothing is lost by a dropout, and nothing needs restoring afterwards. If it happened during a factory reset, the reset itself almost certainly went through, and the list on the Backups page will show it once the unit is back.
